I have had the pleasure of working at Nevada High School as the School Counselor beginning with the 2002-2003 school year. Prior to coming to Nevada High School, my path was long and winding. I grew up and graduated from high school in west central Ohio. I then joined the Navy, where I was a Hospital Corpsman. I spent about 4 years on active duty in the Navy (including during the Gulf War in the early 90’s), and then I was fortunate enough to apply for and earn a ROTC scholarship in nursing. With that I attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, (Go Gators!) where I earned my AA degree. I then transferred to Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL, where I separated from the Navy and completed my BS in Psychology. While finishing my psych degree, I took many education classes that allowed me to get certified as a middle school science teacher in Florida. I then moved to Tampa, FL, where I enrolled at the University of South Florida. At the same time I got a job as a 7th grade science teacher at Oak Grove Middle School in Tampa. I taught for 3 years while I earned my MA in Counselor Education from USF. My first job as a high school guidance counselor was at Tampa Bay Technical High School in the 2001-2002 school year. During that year, my fiancé and I decided to move to Iowa to raise a family. I finished the school year at Tampa Bay Tech, and was then extremely fortunate to be offered the job at Nevada.
Even though I grew up in Ohio, I truly love living in Iowa! I love living in the city of Nevada with my wife Katie and son Jackson, and I am proud to send Jackson to Nevada schools. This has become my home, and I hope it will be for a very long time.
