Hi! My name is Karen Niblock and I have been teaching at Nevada Middle School since 2001. I graduated with a B. A. degree from the University of Iowa and then was a stay-at-home mom for most of 17 years. When my family relocated to Nevada in 2001 I began as a Teacher’s Associate with a blind student. After he left the Middle School I left the Middle School for one year and earned my 5-12 teaching certificate from Iowa State University. I taught the GOALS program for 3 years before joining the 6th grade team in 2008. I began as the High School Drama Director in 2005 directing two productions each year. I also coached Middle School Cheerleading for 12 years and High School Speech for 3 years.
I have four grown children who provide me with plenty to do outside of school. I love to spend time traveling, reading, working all kinds of puzzles and learning new things. I am on the AIW Anchor Team, the Technology Integration Team and the Technology Committee for the Middle School.
My passion is developing learning strategies that meet the needs of today’s students. I believe strongly that we must engage students in order to deepen their understanding and that the use of technology is vital to that goal. I earned my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction in 2012 from Viterbo University in Wisconsin and I was one of twelve middle school teachers to complete the 2014 Summer Science Academy for Middle School Teachers at Iowa State University.
