Vote: Tuesday November 4, 2025, Gates Memorial Hall, 7am-8pm
The Nevada Board of Education is asking Nevada patrons to consider renewal of the school district’s voter-approved 10-year Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL), a primary source of funds for repair, equipping and improving schools.
This information is not intended to advocate that you vote for or against the 10-year renewal of the PPEL, but instead to inform you of the facts about the election & PPEL. Should you have further questions, the Nevada School Board will meet October 20 & November 3, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at Gates Memorial Hall, or call Nevada Superintendent Dr. Steve Gray at 515-382-2783.
What does the Physical Plant & Equipment Levy mean in terms of my taxes?
- The school tax will not increase if PPEL is renewed; this is only continuing an existing levy.
- This is not a new tax; Nevada patrons have provided this funding for repair, equipping and improving our schools for more than 30 years.
- PPEL allows for $1.34 of the school tax rate, applied per $1,000 of taxable assessed valuation. Nevada Schools has, and will continue to levy half ($.67) of the allowable amount, which generates approximately $550,000 per year.
What types of support does PPEL provide to Nevada Schools?
- Bus & Vehicle Replacement, Roof Repair & Replacement, Computers & Technology Equipment, Parking Lot & Sidewalk Repair, HVAC Repair & Upgrades, Security Equipment & Upgrades, New Floor Coverings & Paint, Exterior Upgrades (tuck-pointing, etc.), General Grounds Upkeep & Equipment (Landscaping, Mowers, Mulch, etc.), Fire Alarm Systems, Music & Athletic Equipment, etc.
