The Nevada School Foundation is again proud to present TRIVIA NIGHT with this month’s theme of Halloween  on Saturday, October 26th.  Doors open at 6pm; trivia starting at 7pm at Gates Hall. Community Conversation on Substance Abuse

A community conversation around Substance Abuse will be held on Wednesday May 8th from 6:30pm-9:00pm in the Josephine Tope Community Auditorium.  This event will be hosted by Nevada Mayor Brett Barker, and includes Natasha Terrones (advocate), Geoff Huff (Ames Police Commander), and Dr. Alan Bollinger (Addiction Medicine) in collaboration with the Nevada Police Department. The Hidden in Plain Sight exhibit will be available from 6:30pm until 7:00pm and again after the panel discussion.  Hidden in Plain Sight is a mock bedroom full of items that hide illegal substances, paraphernalia, tobacco, alcohol, and vaping devices. YSS will provide Naloxone/Narcan free of charge to interested audience members who are able to attend the brief training included in the panel discussion. Event is sponsored by the Nevada Substance Abuse Task Force.

Story County Community ID Project

From newcomers to the elderly, many community residents don't have a state-issued ID card or driver’s license. Photo IDs are often required proof of identity to access many services, including health centers, city or county departments, [caption id="attachment_7668" align="alignleft" width="269"]Community Identification Card Example Example of a Community ID Card[/caption] services from schools, social service agencies, law enforcement, and to participate in cultural and business life in our communities. To meet this need, AMOS congregations in Story County are launching the Central Iowa Community ID card, a photo ID that is reliable proof of the holder’s identity and residence. All those 16 yrs. or older are eligible for this ID card. The first ID card drive is Saturday, March 30, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 2900 Hoover Ave., Ames. Doors will open at 9:00 AM. Allow an hour or more. The card costs $8 (cash only) and has a life of two years. All proofs of identity and residence that are used to get an Iowa driver’s license are acceptable, but in addition, some alternative forms of identity documentation can be accepted. November Trivia Night

The Nevada School Foundation is again proud to present TRIVIA NIGHT with this month's theme: Food Pantry Challenge on Saturday November 17.  Doors open at 6pm; trivia starting at 7pm at Gates Hall.

Cubbie’s Cupboard a food pantry administered by the Nevada Community School District. The teamCornucopia that donates the most food/hygiene/cleaning items will win the prize. Monetary donations will also be accepted. $1.00 = 1 item. Each team member on the winning team will receive a free night of future trivia. Items needed: soup, boxed meals (Hamburger Helper type foods), canned fruits and vegetables, cereals, mac and Cheese, pasta/sauce, tuna, rice, pancake mix/syrup, Bisquick. Elementary Bingo Night

SAVE THE DATE! BINGO image header Central Elementary is excited to announce that our 3rd Annual Elementary BINGO Night will be held on Thursday Sept.13th. BINGO will be from 6:00pm - 7:30pm but the doors will open at 5:30pm to buy game books and food. Prices are as follows:
  • 1 book of 5 games = $5.00
  • 3 books = $10.00
  • 5 books = $15.00
Food prices:
  • Pizza $2.00 per slice
  • Drinks (pop or water) $1.00
  • Popcorn $1.00
The money raised from BINGO Night goes to our Student Enterprise fund. This money allows students to use real world experiences to create things or look at potential problems and come up with solutions. Last year, our kindergartners planted and sold gourds to raise money to buy sweatpants for the school nurse for students in need; the second graders designed and built furniture for their classrooms and our multi-age classrooms along with our kindergarten classrooms planted Noah’s Garden for Food at First. These are just a few of the projects the seed money from BINGO Night helped fund. Please join us for a fun-filled, family night on Thursday, September 13th at Central Elementary!!
